Switching to Classic Checkout in WooCommerce

Last updated on October 22, 2025

Themehigh’s WooCommerce Stripe Payment Gateway and PayPal Express Gateway Plugin allow WooCommerce owners to easily integrate payment gateways such as Stripe and PayPal into their WooCommerce stores. If you activate Block Checkout for the WooCommerce Store, you may have pushed a situation where payment methods like Stripe or PayPal are not appearing on the checkout page. This problem can be solved by switching to the classic checkout.

Switching to the classic checkout

Here are the brief steps:

  1. Create a new page titled Classic Checkout.
  2. Set classic checkout as the default checkout page

Step 1 – Creating a new page titled Classic checkout

Creating a new page does not affect existing block checkout pages. Alternatively, you can change it by replacing an existing block checkout page with a classic register. Below are the steps to create a new page for classic checkout:

  1. From the WordPress dashboard and go to Page > New Page.
  2.  Enter a title for the page, such as “Classic Checkout”.
  3. In the Block Editor, click the “+” symbol or use “Toggle Block Interior” to add a new block to the page.

4. Search for “Classic Checkout” and insert it into the page.

  1. Click Update to save the page.

Step 2 – Setting Classic checkout as the default checkout

  1. From the WordPress dashboard, navigate to WooCommerce > Settings.
  2. Click on the Advanced tab, then head to the “Page setup” section.
  3. In the “Checkout page” option, seek for “Classic Checkout” (the newly created classic checkout page) from the dropdown menu and pick it out.

  1. Finally, click on Save changes to reflect the changes.

Alternative method

Instead of creating a new page for classic checkout, store owners can replace the existing checkout with the classic checkout. Here are the steps:

  1. From the WordPress Dashboard, go to Pages > All Pages.
  2. Click on the checkout page in the list to edit it.
  3. Now, replace the existing block checkout with the Classic Checkout.
  4. Finally, click on Update to save changes.

The existing block checkout will be replaced with the classic checkout page.

Once the above steps are completed, the classic checkout page will be the default checkout page, and customers will be repurposed there to complete their order. Customers can complete their orders using payment gateways such as Stripe or PayPal on the Classic Checkout page.
