Set Up Credit/Debit Card Payment for a WooCommerce Store

Last updated on October 22, 2025

The Stripe Payment Gateway plugin for WooCommerce makes it easy to accept important credit cards for payments for your WooCommerce business. Some of the cards allowed are

  • MasterCard
  • Visa
  • American Express
  • Discover
  • JCB
  • Diners Club

Customers may also store credit card information for future use. The full payment transaction is made in Stripe Iframe, which is invited at your store. Therefore, customers do not need to leave the website to pay or go through the easy checkout process.

ⓘ Prerequisite: Ensure that you have connected your Stripe account using the new OAuth 2.0 method.

All right, now let’s get down to configuring the plugin.

Getting started

  • Install and activate the Stripe Payment Gateway for the WooCommerce plugin.
  • From the WordPress dashboard, go to Themehigh Stripe > General Settings.
  • Next move to Credit/Debit Card tab.

  • E-Mail Transaction Document: Activate this option to send transaction documents to customers via E-Mail. It only works in live mode.
  •  Statement Descriptor: If you pay or receive, you can enter a description of the descriptor that appears in the customer’s bank statement. A complete instruction description – either a single static descriptor or a combination of prefixes and suffixes – must meet the following requirements:
    1.  Contains 5-22 characters.
    2.   Contains at least one character.
    3.   Does not contain any of the special characters < >\`” *.
    4.   Reflects business by (DBA) name.
    5.   Contains a single general term or a general website URL. If the customer description contains a clear and accurate description of the transaction, only the website URL is accepted.
ⓘ Discover, Diners Club, and JCB cards are supported only for USD.

Finally, click Save changes to save/update the plugin settings.
